Dinner with Ginger What Does It Mean to be Vegan? Questions & Answers

We hear it all the time now--eat for your health, eat to save the environment, what do we do about downed cows, pesticides and chemicals in our food supply, local vs. organic. Yikes! What does it all mean? How do you make healthy and ethical choices without losing your mind?
Now that Oprah is on a 21 day vegan cleanse, the world is watching and wondering. So, let's talk! I am organizing a small dinner at the Organic Garden in Beverly (www.organicgardencafe.com). It is easy access off Rte. 128 and a 7 minute walk from the commuter rail (Beverly stop).
I have found that there is much confusion (and misinformation) out there about what it means to be vegan. This is an opportunity to learn more. For instance, some of the most commony asked questions are:
- Where do you get your protein?
- Don't you need dairy for calcium?
- What's left to eat when you take out all the meat, dairy, ice cream, eggs, etc.?
- Won't I be bored?
- I love shoes too much to give up leather – what would I wear?
And, I have found there are lots of questions people don't even realize they have.
This evening will be a lively discussion to include (but not limited to) those questions and more. I am happy to share recipes, my experiences, and to talk about how I have taken my health from scary (I was diagnosed with crohn's disease 9 years ago) to great! No questions are off limits.
This dinner is limited to 5.
HOW TO REGISTER:

Clothing Swap & Wardrobe Workshop: Out with the old, in with the new-to-you!
| WHEN: |
TBA |
| PLACE: | Total Image Consultants' Studio, Rte. 1A, Lynn – directions will be sent upon registration |
| CONTACT: | 617-625-5225 Day of: 617-872-4791 (Ginger's cell that day) |
| COST: | $49.00 (come with a friend and it's two-for-one) |
What's in your closet? If you are not sure, open your closet door and scan your wardrobe. Do you love everything you see? Are you wearing most of your clothes regularly? If you answered yes to these two questions, congratulations! If not, how many unworn items are taking up valuable space? Chances are good (judging by the number of closets I've been in), it is more than you'd like!
How would you like a fun, eco-friendly, budget-saving way to clean out your wardrobe and perhaps find a few new wonderful items in the process? It's called a Clothing Swap where you get together with other women, each bringing clothing from her closet (see below for tips on how to determine what to bring). It's a little like shopping in each other's closets. Something that doesn't work for one person could be perfect for someone else. This is an opportunity to try on new things and basically "swap" your clothes for someone else's.
It gets even better. I am hosting a clothing swap that will be part swap and part wardrobe workshop. The last thing you want to do is exchange one unworn item for another one that will suffer the same fate, right? I can help you make good choices both about what to let go of and what to take home with you. We can address why something works in terms of color, style, cut, fit, etc. so you are sure the item(s) works for you.
Don't know what to bring? Consider letting go of it if you...
- haven't worn it in a year or two years (only items in good repair, of course)
- are holding on to things until they fit
- have financial guilt (paid for it but rarely / never wear it)
- received it as a gift but know you will never wear it
- need something to go with it (who knows, someone else might bring the perfect piece!)
This is a great way to get both your spring cleaning and spring shopping off to a good start. Simply take a quick review of your wardrobe and bring 7-10 or so items with you (this can include accessories as well). This is a great opportunity to try something new. And, the worse case scenario is that you'll learn something about what to (or not to) purchase the next time you shop.
The unclaimed clothes will be donated, or simply go back with you (your choice).
The seminar is limited to 12 (with a minimum of 8).
HOW TO REGISTER:
Click the button below, or if you prefer, you may call Deb, my assistant, at 617-625-5225 to give her your registration and Mastercard, Visa or AmEx information, or you can fax your information to my office at 781-842-4694.

Why settle for okay when you can look fabulous everyday? This is the question many women ask themselves and the answer always comes back…because I don't know how, don't have time or am overwhelmed every time I walk into a store. It doesn't help that most of the fashion industry is focused on trends that work for (or appeal to) a tiny percentage of women, and the rest of us get left behind, right? Well, not any more!
If you want to dress with passion and purpose, this workshop is for you. If you're a woman who feels stuck in a fashion rut, out of date, frumpy, or just bored every morning when you look in your closet, this workshop brings you a world of change:
- Have way too many clothes in your closet you don't wear? Learn why you don't wear them so you avoid wasting your money on those kinds of purchases again.
- Take the guesswork out of knowing what to wear by learning how to use color, style, design, accents, details, patterns, and fabrics as they relate to your personal uniqueness.
- Feel growing confidence in choosing clothes that reflect your inner beauty/radiance/charisma as you put the tools you learn into practice.
- Never again feel bored when you get dressed by using the three key components that take any outfit from dull to dynamic.
- Feel empowered each time you stare into your closet when you use "your words" to help you select an outfit.
- Receive valuable and affirming insights from others helping you acknowledge how amazing you are and, as important, realize no one else sees your self-perceived flaws!
- Never again feel you have to settle for purchasing a functional piece of clothing unless it also speaks to who you are!
| "The workshop was fascinating. I can see why you love what you do. The insight gained by each person is almost magical!"—Nancy Mirtle

Ready for the "Totally You" adventure?
Here's how it unfolds:
Part 1. Find Your Own "Totally You" Internal Beauty Guide
TIME: (3-1/2 Hour Workshop) 1:00pm - 4:30pm
DATE: Saturday, January 10, 2009 (only 5 participants per session)
COST: choose your Totally You package deal when you register below: (Part 1 or Parts 1 & 2 or Parts 1 & 2 & 3)
It is hard to know how to dress if you don’t know who you are dressing. You might be a great mom, a terrific businesswoman, or an accomplished skater, dancer, mountain climber, etc. But apart from that, what makes you you? In the first 3-1/2 hour "Totally You" workshop we get to the heart of that.
Most women have a sense of who they are somewhere inside themselves, but they often find it difficult to express fully. Over the past 20 years of helping women get dressed, I have learned that many women can quickly tell you what they don’t like about themselves in great detail but when it comes to recognizing the parts that make them special, unique, and beautiful, words elude them.
Beyond that, women rarely realize how others perceive them—too many times imagining others see what they consider to be their negative traits rather than their positive ones (sound familiar?). Perhaps, like some women, you feel invisible to the rest of the world. The truth is that other people quickly see what makes you fabulously unique with a clarity that is hard to imagine until you experience it.
Step #1, identifying your internal beauty guide, is a fun, eye-opening process Don’t worry! There are no fancy rules to learn, no measurements taken, no critiques involved. It’s easy, non-judgmental, and valuable.
Part 2. Aligning Your Inner & Outer Beauty
If it isn't totally you, it's totally out!
TIME: (4-1/2 Hour Workshop) 1:00pm - 5:30pm
DATE: Saturday, January 31, 2009 (only 5 participants per session)
COST: choose your Totally You package deal when you register below: (Part 1 or Parts 1 & 2 or Parts 1 & 2 & 3)
| "What I got out of the seminars has been totally unexpected! With my words (brightly spirited), I felt relieved of the burden to be a social butterfly. And with the critique of outfits, I felt much better about my body – instantly. Everyone always wants what they don't have, and I am really going to stop trying to hide my bustline, or consider it such a huge defect. Those were two nice surprise lessons for me. Thank you!"—Donna Jacobites

Once you have identified your internal beauty guide (those are the 4 words you got in the original "Aligning Your Inner & Outer Beauty" workshop), you put what you learned into practice. The second "Totally You" group workshop is about making sure that all your wardrobe, hair, and makeup choices express the real you. Learn to take your look from common to captivating, routine to radiant or mundane to magnificent. The possibilities are endless—enchanting and genuine because the new look encompasses your most wonderful traits.
When you open your closet to get dressed, you will no longer put something on and think, "I know this has seen better days but it is so comfy," or "It's not my favorite but my husband will love this," or "It's the best I can do right now" as you head off in a million different directions.
In this interactive group session, we look at how to:
- Know when something works for you: what to look for (and what to avoid) in colors, styles and designs.
- Explore looks you like, that you dream of wearing, and then be able to translate them into reality.
- Work with outfits in your existing wardrobe that frustrate you or feel incomplete and then transform them into beautiful expressions of you (or wave goodbye).
- Be prepared for any occasion by understanding how to interpret various styles: natural, polished, sexy, powerful, whimsical, comfortable, etc. to fit your personality.
- Be a smart shopper and never again be at the mercy of salespeople wondering "Should I buy it or shouldn't I?" You'll know!
- Explore putting the finishing touches on an outfit to express your personality with pizzazz.
Bring with you:
- Your four words
- Four or more outfits (including shoes and accessories).
- They can be for work, leisure casual, fun social, dressy, etc. A range is good.
- Bring outfits that have some component that you like but that don't feel complete or even outfits that you are totally frustrated by. (If you do not have complete outfits, bring lots of separates.)
- Don't let this part scare you or keep you from attending. There's no judgment here. We have fun with it!
- Catalogues from stores that you like or magazines with pictures of clothes/styles you like.
- Color palette if you have one.
Part 3. Dressing the Totally New You
Private Consulting with Ginger
TIME & DATE: To be scheduled privately with each person
COST: choose your Totally You package deal when you register below: (Part 1 or Parts 1 & 2 or Parts 1 & 2 & 3)
This is your opportunity to put it all together! You have my full attention for two hours ($320 value) to be used for any of my services that would be most helpful to you. The more we work together on this, the more comfortable you feel making wardrobe and image choices every day. We can:
- Go through your closet and look at your existing wardrobe to identify what is totally you and what isn't.
- Shop together to explore looks that are totally you. (We choose the store(s) based on your wardrobe needs, personality, style, and budget.)
No matter how you choose to use your two-hours of consulting time, you will:
- Learn how to make shopping fun and rewarding by knowing how to focus your attention when you enter a store.
- Find out whether you should be buying a wrap dress, animal print belt, smock top or whatever the current trend is?
- Receive an objective, supportive viewpoint as you explore new styles, colors, patterns, etc. so you feel less intimidated and more confident about which clothing to add to your wardrobe.
- Begin to move out of a fashion rut if you've been in one. Now is the time to entice your personality out of hiding and use what you have learned to create a more original wardrobe that you love.
- Learn what to do when you are shopping by yourself and you get stumped. Should you buy it? Should you not? If you paired it with something else might it work? Understand when to take a chance and when to let it go.
Why settle for okay when you can look fabulous everyday? This program provides a step-by-step process to achieve a look that aligns your inner and outer beauty! Why settle for anything less than "Totally You" the next time you get dressed! Sign up for "Totally You" today!

Jewelry 101: Bring Color, Style & Your Personality to Your Wardrobe

What can dramatically transform how you look in a matter of seconds? The answer is simple: jewelry.
Without a doubt, jewelry can change an outfit, fit your mood, express your personality, make an outfit go from day to evening, and even allow you to make an outfit out of seemingly mismatched pieces.
Jewelry 101: The Darling of Accessories!
Presented by: Ginger Burr & Karen Halaby
What's in your jewelry case? Better yet, do you even have a jewelry case or is your jewelry haphazardly tossed in a drawer (but that's another seminar!)? Many women have a handful of exquisite fine jewelry (usually given to them as gifts) and a collection of baubles and beads they've amassed over the years. They wear about 1/6 of what they have, at best, and are bewildered when it comes to using their jewelry to create an image and express a mood or fit an occasion.
There are few image tools more powerful and expressive than well chosen jewelry. Building an image is all about personal expression. Jewelry offers you the benefit of being considerably less expensive than purchasing a completely new outfit, and it certainly takes up a lot less space! As my mom always says, "Good things come in small packages!" (she's petite). No truer words were spoken when it comes to jewelry and its impact. It can take your look from elegant to professional to dynamic to enchanting to sassy to sophisticated to earthy to radiant… in a matter of seconds! The dilemma remains: how do you do it?
This 1 to 1-1/2 hour seminar will address the following:
- What's the best length necklace for you?
- How large or small should your jewelry be?
- Can you wear geometric shapes or are rounded designs better?
- How much jewelry can you wear at one time?
- Is silver. gold, crystals, semi precious stones, pearls or beads best for you?
- How do you choose the appropriate style for your personaliy and a particular outfit?
- What are the hot styles for the season?
Please bring clothing with you you'd like help accessorizing. This is a very visual, hands-on seminar. Seeing is believing! You are welcome to stay after the seminar and shop at Jewelry by Karel (no purchase is required to attend the workshop). I'll be there to help you try on the latest fashions in jewelry and make great choices.
Remember a day without jewelry is like a night without stars!
The seminar is limited to 8 (with a minimum of 4).
HOW TO REGISTER:
Click the button below, or if you prefer, you may call Deb, my assistant, at 617-625-5225 to give her your registration and Mastercard, Visa or AmEx information, or you can fax your information to my office at 781-842-4694.

A full refund will be offered to those who cancel no less than one week before the seminar date. After that date, no refund will be offered unless your space can be filled with another participant (in which case you will receive a full refund) or I do not receive at least 4 registrants in which case everyone who registered will, of course, receive a refund.

Now, Have the Perfect Handbag for Any Event (at a very reasonable price!) By Designing Your Own!
| WHEN: | TBA | | PLACE: | 1154 Lill Studio 220 Newbury Street | | CONTACT: | 617-625-5225 | | COST: | No charge (with one exception*) |
Have you ever gotten dressed, ready to head out the door and realize you don't have the perfect handbag to carry? Frustration sets in as you grab your everyday, worn bag that has half your life stuffed into it. Somehow it doesn't fit with the pretty/elegant/funky/whimsical/dramatic/spirited (you name it) look you have going on in your outfit. Well, fret no more!
I have discovered the most wonderful shop: 1154 Lill Studio. It's located at 220 Newbury Street (nearly right next door to Joseph
Ribkoff). They offer an amazing number of handbag designs and a seemingly limitless choice of fabrics. Bag prices range between $58- $150, with make-up bags, coin purse and a wallet for $25- $36.
So, on Wed., Jan. 18 (6:30 pm), the store will be closed to the public, and we'll have it all to ourselves! Someone from 1154 Lill will be
there to help explain their custom purse design process and to take your custom-orders. You are also welcome to purchase ready-made bags directly off the rack for the same price as a custom order! Custom orders take 2 to 3 weeks to make and can either be shipped via UPS for $8.00, or picked up at the store. If you have an outfit you want to match or know you need a handbag in a particular color, feel free to bring the outfit or your color palette with you. I will be there to help as well, of course.
To check out the store, go to www.1154lill.com/custombags/
* Because they require a minimum number of people to hold the event, there is no charge unless you cancel less than 5 days before the event in which case there is a $50 charge (because that's what they will charge me if we have to cancel). This is done on an honor basis, so I'm not taking any credit card numbers or anything in advance.
This is a perfect "girls night out" come with a friend or two and plan to have dinner afterwards. 1154 Lill Studio is located on Newbury Street between Exeter and Fairfield Streets, next door to the Armani Café (both on the left). Shop and have dinner afterwards at Armani Café, Charlie's (corner of Newbury and Gloucester), Stephanie's, Joe's American Bar & Grill or the little Italian place right next door (or countless other charming restaurants).
You can park at the meters on Newbury (allow extra time to find a spot) or there's a parking lot on the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth Streets (1-1/2 blocks from 1154 Lill Studio) that only charges $14 after 5:00 pm for the evening.

|
PLACE: | Total Image Consultants' Studio Rte. 1A Lynn--9 miles from Logan Airport (directions will be sent upon registration) | | CONTACT: | 617-625-5225 | |
COST: | $49.00
Everyone who attends will receive a makeup gift value $15 (no purchase necessary to attend the seminar) |
Three complaints I hear regularly from women when it comes to makeup are:
- I’m bored. I’ve been wearing the same makeup or applying it in the same way for years. I need a change but don’t want to look trashy or silly. What can I do?
- I have a drawer full of makeup I never wear. I’ve collected free samples, bought things at a cosmetic counter and never understood how to use them correctly, or I’ve picked up things at the drugstore in desperation. I’m overwhelmed. What can I use and what should I throw away?
- I’m confused by the makeup trends. The magazines encourage me to buy the latest and trendiest look. I feel paralyzed by indecision. How much trendiness is enough? How much is too much? What actually looks good on me?
In this seminar, using participant volunteers to demonstrate a technique, learn to:
- Conceal dark circles, blemishes, sun spots and more
- Line your eyes easily and effortlessly and look natural!
- How to choose flattering trends and colors for the season
- Make boring a thing of the past: 3 overlooked steps that can take your makeup from good to great
and more...
We’ll cover as much as we can in the 1-1/2 hours. Come with questions. There's lots we can cover including demonstrations of various types of foundations (learn what works best for what types of skin and differing levels of coverage and wearability), blushes (cream vs powder), eyeshadow placement, defining your eyebrows (to do or not to do), lining your lips (yes or no?), etc.
The seminar is limited to 10 (with a minimum of 4).
HOW TO REGISTER: A registration form is available below. If you prefer, you may call Deb, my assistant, at 617-625-5225 to give her your registration and Mastercard, Visa or AmEx information, or you can fax your information to my office at 781-842-4694.

Are You Super Sensitive?
Understanding, Protecting, and Improving Sensitive Skin
A Skincare Seminar
| WHEN: | TBA | | PLACE: | Total Image Consultants' Studio Rte. 1A Lynn--9 miles from Logan Airport (directions will be sent upon registration) | | CONTACT: | 617-625-5225 | | COST: | $29.00 |
More and more women are admitting to having sensitive skin. This can mean anything from it tingles at the slightest provocation to someone whose skin blushes easily, to someone with full blown rosacea. What we rarely hear about, however, is what you can do, short of avoiding certain ingredients and triggers, to improve your sensitivity and give your skin some relief.
In this workshop, we'll address:
- The #1 contributor to sensitive skin.
- How to identify if your skin is sensitive.
- Do's and don'ts for sensitive skin.
- What role does heredity play?
- Aging and sensitive skin: is there a link?
- How do you address aging skin concerns if you have sensitive skin?
Since this is such a prevalent issue, and since we're coming into the cold months when sensitive skin takes a beating from the dry air, wind and cold, it's the perfect time to talk about what you can do to protect and soothe it.
The seminar is limited to 10 (with a minimum of 4).

For nearly 20 years, there is one question I have been asked more than any other. That is… "What do I do with my hair?" A colleague of mine once said that if you're having a bad hair day nothing else matters, and there is some truth to that. When we don't like the way our hair looks, we are preoccupied, frustrated and feel like nothing else works either. I hear this over and over and have certainly experienced it myself.
I am not a hairstylist nor do I profess to know all there is to know about hair. I do, however, know some terrific hairstylists who do know about hair. I've asked one, Josie Baker Procopio (who has cut my hair for the past 10 years) to present an informational seminar in my studio. She's delighted to do it!
As some of you know, Josie is a very hands-on person (she's Italian!). She will speak for a bit about hair in general, how hairstyles can flatter face shapes, fun trends for spring (should you or shouldn’t you!), the best way to care for your hair, and styling techniques (can you just air dry and get what you want or do you need to spend some time with your hairdryer!). We will draw a name that evening from those who are willing to volunteer for either a:
• a hair cut
• quick updo
(obviously the updo will be on someone with relatively long hair)
In addition. Josie will spend a few minutes with each person consulting on hair concerns, treatments, and styles. Each person will also receive a discount coupon to use towards a future appointment with Josie.
To keep things even more action-packed, I will do a quick makeup application on each person. Coordinating your makeup with your hair and clothing is one of the elements of a great look!
Each person who attends will also receive a discount coupon to use towards a future appointment with Josie and either a $10 coupon towards any makeup purchase with Total Image Consultants.
So, bring your questions about hair and makeup and get ready to breeze into spring!
The seminar is limited to 10 (with a minimum of 5).
