Animal testing is a huge business. The lives of the animals (running in the billions) involved is a life of misery and pain.
The good news is that more and more products that are not tested on animals are available.
It just takes a little research (see "Animal Testing: A few surprises"),
commitment to finding replacement products for those that do test on animals.
It sends a message to the business community and saves the needless suffering of many animals.

Want delicious, satisfying meals? This is a great book for those cozy days!
This book goes way beyond the horrors of raising animals for food and addresses the philosophical question of why we eat meat so unconsciously. Will Tuttle looks at tradition and our cultural roots, at how we inherit our food choices often without question. He looks at the domination of the feminine and who profits from our choices. It is a powerful and thought-provoking book that anyone considering becoming a vegan will want to read.
Animal experts Williams (who works for the Humane Society) and DeMello (Stories Rabbits Tell) deliver an excellent look at cruelty to animals on an institutional level in various industries, taking a "common sense perspective" and revealing many disturbing facts that could turn the most ardent meat eater into a hard-core vegetarian. This is a tough but fair-minded revelation of how mass production of animals for food and other purposes results in cruelty that usually remains hidden from sight.
This book is just what it says, an inside look at what happens in slaughterhouses. Basically, if you are going to eat meat, you should know how it got to your plate. Not easy reading but important!
My new favorite cookbook. The recipes are totally delicious and easy. My favorites: the frittata (both versions), the gooey grilled cheez and the mediterranean quinoa salad.
This book is not for the faint of heart or anyone who is easily offended.
Rory and Kim do not mince words or tiptoe around their subject—the idea of getting healthy and a by-product of getting
healthy is getting skinny. They are direct, succinct, and often brash,
but they get their point across. If you enjoy edgy writing,
to-the-point direction and a good helping of bathroom humor (literally)
then you'll have fun reading this book. If not, there are plenty of
other vegan books to choose from.
This book has changed my life dramatically. The research is amazing and the health implications astonishing.
